ABA Therapy in California
Looking for ABA therapy covered by insurance in California? Lean Medical connects families with board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) who provide applied behavior analysis for children with autism spectrum disorder. We accept Cigna and Aetna and handle the authorization process for you.
What Is ABA Therapy?
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based treatment for autism spectrum disorder and related developmental conditions. ABA focuses on building skills in communication, social interaction, daily living, and self-regulation while reducing behaviors that interfere with learning and development.
Treatment is individualized. Your child's BCBA conducts a comprehensive behavior assessment, develops a treatment plan tailored to your child's specific needs and goals, and adjusts the plan as your child progresses.
What ABA Therapy Involves
ABA treatment typically includes an initial behavior assessment to identify your child's strengths and areas for growth, an individualized treatment plan with specific measurable goals, direct therapy sessions guided by a BCBA and delivered by trained behavior technicians (RBTs), regular progress monitoring and plan updates, and parent and caregiver training so you can support your child's development at home.
Treatment intensity varies by child. Some children benefit from a few hours per week, while others need a more intensive schedule. Your BCBA will recommend an approach based on your child's assessment.
Our ABA Team
ABA therapy at Lean Medical is led by board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) who hold master's or doctoral degrees in behavior analysis. BCBAs design treatment plans and oversee all services. Registered behavior technicians (RBTs) work under BCBA supervision to deliver direct therapy sessions.
All ABA clinicians are credentialed with Cigna and Aetna through Lean Medical.
Insurance Coverage for ABA Therapy
California law requires most health insurance plans to cover ABA therapy for autism spectrum disorder. Lean Medical is in-network with Cigna and Aetna, and both plans cover ABA services.
ABA therapy requires prior authorization from your insurance company before treatment can begin. This involves submitting your child's behavior assessment and treatment plan for approval. We manage the entire authorization and re-authorization process so you can focus on your child's care.
